It is amazing what decisions have to be made when one is only allowed two suitcases under 50 pounds and a small carry-on suitcase to have for the next four months. After much deliberation and careful planning, however, I successfully had both of my checked bags weigh in at 46.5 lbs each. My flight was very smooth and on time, and, either by chance or fate, ten of my classmates ended up on the same flight to Rome as I was. We prearranged travel through RomeCabs, which actually turned out to be a very good cab service from the Fiumcino Airport to central Rome, about a 45 minute ride. The driver met us at the gate with a sign as soon as our we walked through customs, and then took the eleven of us, along with two other girls in our program that came on a different flight to two minibuses. They were even very willing to stop at the offices of our program to get our apartment keys, and then drive us on to our apartments. The price was very reasonable as well.
We are slowly getting settled into our apartments as we unpack and try to figure out where things should go. I'm excited for the next four months- I can't wait to get to know Rome better!
